Andreas Maurer is a German politician. Between 1992 and 2006 he was a member of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU). Maurer joined Die Linke / The Left party in 2011, successfully running for council in the town of Quakenbrück, the Artland collective municipality and the District of Osnabrück in the same year. In 2016 he became the head of the Die Linke / The Left party's faction in Quakenbrück's District Council. In June 2018, he was sentenced for election fraud in western Germany.

The overwhelming majority of the world’s nations does not recognise Russia’s annexation of Ukraine’s Autonomous Republic of Crimea in 2014, while international institutions such as the OSCE ODIHR considered Russian elections held in Crimea as illegitimate and did not send international election observers there. In their turn, Ukrainian authorities warned that any participation in the electoral process in Crimea would be illegal.
