Nicolas Bay is a Member of the European Parliament from France since 2014. He served as General Secretary of the National Rally / Rassemblement National (former National Front) from 2014 to 2017. Since January 2016 he is a member of the Regional Council of Normandy. In February 2022, National Rally stripped Nicolas Bay of all his official roles within the party. Shortly after Nicolas Bay joined Reconquête (Reconquête!) - a political party in France launched in 2021, where now Bay serves as Executive Vice-President.

The 8th parliamentary election in Russia was held from 17 to 19 September 2021. With the exception of the election in Russia-annexed Crimea, this election is considered legitimate.
